Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 1066: Dragon Emperor

The Dragon Emperor's magic energy exploded, nearly suffocating Cyneah and Kyran.

But Kyran no longer wanted to passively receive the Dragon Emperor's attack. He only did that earlier because he thought the same as Cyneah that his attacks were only a form of greeting.

The Dragon Emperor also did not emit murderous intent, thus, even when Kyran suffered injuries, he chose to injure and do his best to avoid receiving fatal ones.

This time was different. Although faint Kyran sensed the Dragon Emperor's murderous intent. The latter probably did his best to conceal it, but with the former utilizing his Draconic magic he was able to glean the subtle intent that leaked out from the latter.

With this in mind, Kyran's magic energy also exploded, wanting to counter as much pressure as he could that was coming out from the Dragon Emperor.

But.

"P-Please stop!"

A different kind of magic energy appeared from the small gap between the Dragon Emperor and Kyran.

The two magic energies coming from the Dragon Emperor and Kyran were similar, but because of their seething dark emotions for each other both energies clashed with lethality. But the moment the new magic energy appeared the negative energy that was about to swallow the first two magic energies mellowed in an instant.

The Dragon Emperor was surprised as he felt a soothing effect coming from the new magic energy. Not only that, it might be small in scale, but it successfully blended into his and Kyran's magic energy.

'Hm?'

The Dragon Emperor noticed a soft melancholic sound flowing within the new magic energy.

'This song is…' his eyes widened in disbelief as he recognized the tune. Apart from that, though it sounded distant, a few of the song's lyrics resonated with him as if recalling something in the past.

On the other hand, Kyran was already familiar with the magic energy and even the song flowing within. Different from the Dragon Emperor's reaction of disbelief, Kyran's face distorted in fear.

That was right.

Cyneah owned the new magic energy and was doing her best to calm both the Dragon Emperor and Kyran's hostile magic energies and soothe their emotions. Her mirror-like eyes shone brightly as words from the same song she sang the first time she used healing magic in Kyran's presence left her lips.

Everyone watching the confrontation between the Dragon Emperor and Kyran from a distance were similarly shock.

Those part of the new generation like Cove, Irving, Ladon, Thorn and Maren were shocked because they did not expect Cyneah to be the one to get in between the Dragon Emperor and Kyran.

Meanwhile, those who had been alive several years after The Fall like Ames and Leif, felt nostalgia from the faint song they could hear. Apart from that the magic energy coming from Cyneah felt foreign yet familiar at the same time.

"Neah, stop!" Kyran shouted in fear as red blood started to trickle down the sides of Cyneah's eyes.

It was obvious that her body was put in a lot of strain from trying to calm two Draconic magic energies. She might be the real successor of the Soul Emperor and should have the capability to stand side by side with another Ancient magic, however, she did not have the Soul core and only relied on the Macabre Glacier as a magic core to invoke Soul magic.

Apart from that, she could not brazenly use the Soul magic energy stored inside the mirror or else its sentient might wake up and who knew what kind of disaster would follow.

If Cyneah had a magic core of her own, she might be able to alleviate the strain a little by transferring some of the load from using Soul magic into it. However, she did not possess even that. This was why the strain manifested through her eyes, which was known to be the representation of Soul magic.

Kyran's glowing silver eyes turned reddish-purple as he hastily switched the magic energy circulating in his magic core from Draconic to Void. He no longer cared about acting respectful toward the Dragon Emperor. Thus, he would no longer restrict himself from using Void magic.

Foooom!

A translucent dark purple veil expanded outward from Kyran and enveloped the whole twenty kilometers of the surroundings in the blink of an eye.

It happened too fast that the Dragon Emperor, who was somewhat affected by Cyneah's song, failed to react in time.

When he regained his senses, he was enraged and all he could think of was to destroy everything before him.

However, he realized belatedly that he could not use his magic energy.

"!"

It was the same with Cyneah. In fact, as soon as the translucent dark purple veil passed through her body, she felt disconnected from the outside world. Not only that, but she also failed to communicate with the Macabre Glacier.

From this, Cyneah understood at once what Kyran did.

Void Domain.

"B*stard–!"

"Take out your anger at me, but keep Neah out of this!" Kyran growled at the Dragon Emperor before the latter could curse at him.

"No, don't say that!" Cyneah shook her head in disagreement. She turned toward the Dragon Emperor and pleaded once more, "Stop doing things you know you will regret, milord, please, Lord Dragon Emperor."

"Neah–."

"He is still your descendant, Lady Ames's precious grandson. Please don't use violence to convey whatever it is you want to say," Cyneah hastily said before Kyran could interrupt.

The Dragon Emperor's brow furrowed after hearing Cyneah's plea. He did intend to continue beating up Kyran because even if he could not circulate magic energy, he still possessed a monstrous strength.

But Cyneah's plea made him stop. He did have a lot to say, but just as she said, venting it by beating up Kyran was not the only way to convey it. Find your next read at m_v l|e-.net

Besides, seeing the two trying to protect each other from him made him realize how villainous he might appear to be.

Why was he even enraged?

The Dragon Emperor admitted that one reason he snapped was how Kyran looked similar to the person Zane considered a friend yet had to kill. Although that person looked more feminine than masculine, which differentiates him from Kyran, he was the reason Zane almost lost himself.

Ultimately, the Dragon Emperor's reason for snapping at Kyran was petty. Kyran was not even that person. Physically, they had a few similarities, but Kyran also inherited something that identified Zane or his family from the rest- black hair and gray eyes. Kyran's body structure was also almost similar to Zane's.

As these sank into the Dragon Emperor's mind, he realized how childish the reason he snapped was.

Contrary to Ames's belief that her father felt betrayed by Kyran's existence, that was the extent of the older man's worry. Yes, the Dragon Emperor worried about a human ending up with two of the Ancient Magic Cores. But the fact that Shaiha chose Kyran somewhat balanced out his concern.

It was one thing for a human to possess two Ancient Magic Cores but not acknowledge by Shaiha to one who was acknowledged. This was because as someone recognized by Shaiha, he had the responsibility to gather all Ancient Magic Cores. In fact, the Dragon Emperor would worry more if Shaiha acknowledged an unqualified human. Since she chose Kyran, a descendant of his own daughter, he felt more at ease.

At least he knew Kyran would never exploit the Ancient Magic Cores for selfish purposes.

"Father!"

In the few seconds that the Dragon Emperor became preoccupied with his thoughts, Ames arrived at their location. She did not step into the translucent dark purple veil because she feared she might disrupt Kyran's control over it and her father might start going on the rampage once more.

She called out to him at once and added, "Reign in your anger, Father. Kyran is not at fault. He is also a victim of a ploy the previous holders of the Ancient Magic Cores concocted."

The Dragon Emperor's frown deepened after hearing his daughter. Only then did he realize that to others, he attacked Kyran because he did not approve of the latter's existence.

"I know," the Dragon Emperor replied after a short pause. He then sighed and looked at Kyran, whose complexion started to pale.

He did not have to use his senses to know that the reason the younger man's defiant attitude earlier was nowhere in sight was because he was now focused on maintaining his domain.

It should be noted that Domains were not popular in the Higher Realm because it was way weaker than Dimensions. But he risked using it not to stop the Dragon Emperor from circulating magic energy but to stop Cyneah. Because to Kyran, the possibility of the Macabre Glacier's sentient awakening was more concerning than receiving a full-force attack from the Dragon Emperor.

The Dragon Emperor turned his attention to Cyneah and said, "I know of your situation..."

His eyes flickered with amusement, and after a short pause, he added, " You truly are fearless, human."
