Whether it was the school leaders in the audience, the competitors on the stage, or the cameramen live-streaming on the sidelines, everyone was silent at this moment. Their mouths hung open as they stared blankly at the scene above, the Ghost Lamp bound by several dark shadows mid-air.
Shadow Control... has really become a tangible attack?!
Those who had previously speculated that Little Treasure's shadow control might have reached a three-dimensional level were utterly stunned.
They had just been making wild guesses, but it turned out to be true?!
The feeling was akin to watching a TV drama and casually gossiping with a friend: "The chemistry between the male and female leads feels so real; they must be dating."
Only for the news to break the very next day: "Popular stars confirm off-screen romance!"
It was unbelievable!
"Did you see that?"
"Yeah."
"Shadow Control.""Yeah."
"It’s become a tangible attack now."
"Yeah."
"That’s full mastery, right?"
"Yeah."
"Can you say something else?"
"Yeah."
"..."
Some people were still in a daze, while others had already snapped back to reality, their eyes full of anticipation for the Treasure-Seeking Demon's next move.
There are differences between advanced skills, and Shadow Control is one of the rarer ones. It’s not something you often see, even on TV. Usually, it’s portrayed as shadows confined to the ground, purely for control.
The idea of shadows turning into tangible, three-dimensional attacks is rarely depicted, and when it is, it’s usually in villainous contexts, heartless attacks that are visually spectacular but leave the protagonist in a terrible state.
Now, everyone eagerly looked up, expecting to see the Treasure-Seeking Demon's launch a dramatic attack, like in those intense TV battles. Instead, the little beast raised another claw not currently using Shadow Control and extended a stubby digit.
The shadow on the ground suddenly extended and connected to one of the dark tendrils binding the Ghost Lamp.
"Xun xun~"
Little Treasure grinned mischievously, as though he had just pulled off a prank.
"Ghost!"
The Ghost Lamp, also a ghost-type creature, sensed danger from the beast's expression. Panic flashed across its face as it began to struggle violently. ȑ𝐀𐌽օβƐᶊ
"Xun xun~"
Little Treasure cooed sweetly, as if to say, Don’t worry, it’ll all be over soon.
In the next second, he swung his two short claws, both controlling Shadow Control, in a crisscrossing motion.
"Ghost!!!"
The Ghost Lamp was sent spinning wildly, completely losing its sense of direction.
Little Treasure continued to swing the shadows back and forth, crossing them repeatedly like poorly kneaded noodles. The Ghost Lamp, unable to endure it any longer, passed out with stars in its eyes.
Before losing consciousness, one thought flashed through the ghostly lantern’s mind: It’s finally over.
A whistle signaling the end of the match blew.
"Xun."
Little Treasure looked disappointed. While he had promised to end the battle quickly, he didn’t expect it to end this quickly. He hadn’t had enough fun yet.
For a brief moment, the arena was silent. Then, an uproar broke out.
"I’m dying! That attack style is hilarious!"
"Does this Treasure-Seeking Demon have some kind of fetish for spinning its opponents dizzy?"
"Shadow Control is such a high-end skill, yet this beast uses it like it’s playing with noodles. Genius!"
"Who knew ghost-type beasts could be so cute? I suddenly want to contract one myself!"
"Qiao Sang is terrifying. How does she train her beasts to be so powerful? Forget being a first-year; if you told me she was a senior, I’d think even that was an understatement."
It’s one thing to be strong, but to be this overwhelmingly strong at 15? Unbelievable.
"By the way, what was up with that Ghost Lamp earlier? The Treasure-Seeking Demon was on the ground, so why was its will-o'-the-wisp aimed in the air? Even if the beast was invisible, they’re both ghost-types, they should sense each other’s locations, right?"
"Maybe it’s severely nearsighted?" Someone suggested, though even they found the idea absurd.
After all, the Ghost Lamp belonged to Zhang Shiming, who had ranked in the top 24 in the previous national campus beast mastering league. If its eyesight were truly that bad, how could it have performed so well?
"If the Ghost Lamp isn’t the problem..." Someone else chimed in.
"Then it must be the Treasure-Seeking Demon."
"It probably has some skill that allows it to change its position." Zhang Shiming finally spoke up after a long silence.
"During the match, the was definitely aimed correctly, but the Treasure-Seeking Demon’s position must have shifted suddenly."
The next competitor, a girl preparing to go onstage, shrugged nonchalantly.
"Does its position even matter? It’s not like I can win anyway."
Zhang Shiming: ...
Why had she suddenly given up so thoroughly?
The next three matches went exactly as expected, Qiao Sang won them all.
Little Treasure either spun his opponents dizzy with Shadow Control or swung them around like a toy. He seemed to be enjoying himself thoroughly.
In the final match of the A2 group, Qiao Sang suddenly recalled something and waved her hand, recalling Little Treasure into her beast taming codex
The boy from Yicheng Beast Taming High School, who was about to compete against her, froze for a moment before letting out a sigh of relief.
With the Treasure-Seeking Demon gone, Qiao Sang probably wouldn’t send it back out. Even though he was prepared to lose, there were better ways to lose than being spun around like a toy.
Fortunately, that wouldn’t happen in the next match.
For the final match, Qiao Sang summoned Yabao.
"Yap!"
Yabao appeared on the stage, full of energy and determination.
Qiao Sang cast a sly glance at the cameras. She remembered the vice principal mentioning that after the preliminary rounds, reporters would randomly interview participants from each school.
If nothing went wrong, she was almost guaranteed to be interviewed.
This would be the perfect opportunity to promote her Flame Hound and his psychic-type abilities!
The match began.
"Yabao, use Psychic Spin!" Qiao Sang commanded.
There were many ways to win, but since this was her chance to highlight Yabao’s psychic abilities, she would have to rely on them to secure victory.
"Yap!"
Hearing his master’s command, Yabao’s eyes glowed blue.
"Tail!"
Under his psychic control, the long-tailed snake was lifted into the air and began spinning rapidly.
The boy: !!!
