The Return of the God Level Assassin

Chapter 1183: YUNYUE VS FENGHUANG (XVIII)

1183 YUNYUE VS FENGHUANG (XVIII)

AFTER that announcement, of course, most of the passengers complained. Not all of them had the final stop of the train as their destination. Some were bound for Vienna, others for Budapest, and a few for Belgrade. Many passengers had carefully planned their journeys and now faced the inconvenience of delays or being forced to alter their schedules.

But what could the train manager do? He couldn't take back what he said. If they stopped and the train exploded, it would be a disaster far worse than a few angry, influential passengers. All he could do was grit his teeth and stick to his decision, no matter how much it annoyed them.

The passengers reacted with restrained but palpable outrage. Sharp murmurs rippled through the train as dissatisfaction spread from compartment to compartment. Some demanded clarification in clipped, disapproving tones, while others voiced their grievances more quietly, their indignation still clear. Still, the manager remained steadfast in his decision.

But these things had nothing to do with the two teams. Both were busy following up with the plans they made the night before.

Luo Yan sat quietly in the cabin they had been transferred to, his expression dazed and melancholic. He maintained the persona of a timid girl, still visibly shaken by the horrifying events that had befallen her 'mother'. Both Mrs. Thompson and Miss Thompson watched him with concern, their worry etched on their faces. Little did they know, the 'little girl' they were so worried about was secretly chatting cheerfully with his teammates. Bai Ze explained that he was currently 'protesting' the train manager's sudden decision not to stop the train. Given the character he was playing, failing to voice his objections would have been completely out of character. Naturally, this 'protest' didn't involve storming off to confront the train manager or rallying the passengers to complain. After all, most of the travelers aboard were members of high society, and their refined upbringing would never permit such behavior. Instead, Bai Ze headed to the dining car and directed all his grievances toward one of the unfortunate waiters.

Of course, he didn't just complain. He also took the opportunity to observe the expressions of the passengers who were having breakfast in the dining car. It was a good way to see who appeared unusually calm, nervous, or out of place—potentially revealing someone with something to hide.

Noctis: [What about you, Sister Yuqi? Did you discover anything last night?]

Su Yuqi then started to describe what she had encountered the previous night.

=====

Su Yuqi closed the team channel and made her way toward the train car where the incident had occurred. Since she was playing the role of a train attendant, her presence there wouldn't raise too much suspicion if anyone happened to see her. Moreover, since she had volunteered to assist earlier, another attendant had already been temporarily assigned to oversee the train car she was responsible for.

On her way there, Su Yuqi saw Miss Thompson hurrying from the direction of the train car where the incident happened. Her hair was slightly disheveled, and she clutched the edges of her skirt as she walked quickly, her heels clicking loudly on the floor. Miss Thompson didn't notice Su Yuqi at first, but when she did, she visibly flinched, almost jumping in surprise, before quickly smoothing her expression and forcing herself to smile.

"Oh, it's you," she said quickly, smoothing her skirt as if to compose herself further. "I suppose you're wondering why I am out so late, especially after all that has happened. I had only just realized I had left something in our previous cabin and went back to fetch it."

Su Yuqi offered a polite smile, her tone neutral. "There's no need for Miss Thompson to explain herself to me. I only wish you had asked an attendant to handle this for you. Given everything that has happened, we cannot be too careful."

Miss Thompson hesitated for a moment before nodding lightly. "Yes… I understand."

"Do you require any assistance now?" Su Yuqi asked.

Miss Thompson shook her head quickly. "No, thank you. That won't be necessary." Su Yuqi gave a slight nod, her polite smile never faltering. "Very well, Miss Thompson. Please don't hesitate to call for assistance if you need anything."

Miss Thompson managed a small, strained smile in return. "Thank you. I shall keep that in mind." She adjusted her skirt once more and stepped past Su Yuqi, her movements brisk, as if she couldn't wait to leave.

Su Yuqi watched her retreating figure for a moment before turning back toward her destination, her expression calm but her mind quietly analyzing the odd behavior she had just witnessed.

She decided to store that information at the back of her mind for now and continued toward her destination. As she reached the train car, she pushed the door open, only for it to swing inward abruptly. An old man, seemingly about to open the door from the other side, stumbled forward, almost colliding with her. Su Yuqi stepped back quickly, her eyes narrowing slightly as she took in his hunched posture and the cane he clutched for support.

Su Yuqi asked calmly, "Are you alright, sir?"

The old man flailed his free hand for balance before straightening up with a sheepish chuckle. "Oh dear, oh dear! Quite alright, young man, quite alright! My apologies—these old bones don't move as they used to!" He adjusted his spectacles, which had slid down his nose, then fumbled with his cane as it nearly slipped from his grasp. "I didn't expect anyone to be standing there. Almost sent myself flying, didn't I?"

Su Yuqi's eyes narrowed slightly, her tone remaining polite. "Forgive me, sir, but what are you doing here so late at night?"

The old man's face lit up with an embarrassed chuckle. "Ah, well, you see… I was looking for the lavatory! Nature's call, you know how it is." He gestured vaguely with his cane, spinning it in a small circle. "Thought I was heading the right way, but these corridors—terribly confusing at this hour. Everything looks the same in the dark!" He gave a self-deprecating laugh. "I must have wandered a bit farther than I intended. Dreadful sense of direction, I'm afraid!"
