The Emperor was infuriated for letting both of his prey escape. He did not understand how the human with the Draconic Core and Heart of the Cosmos survived the plane's explosion or where the one with another Ancient Magic Core escaped to after entering the Land of Desolation. He tried searching for their traces for several days yet failed miserably.
Since he could not pick up their traces from their last location, The Emperor decided to return first in Somuli where they first discovered the human with the Draconic Core and Heart of the Cosmos. Though The Emperor already suspected the human was not from there but from the Human plane, he reckoned he would return there since he appeared to be protective of that plane's residents.
However, upon returning to Somuli, The Coven stopped every attempt he made to descend from that plane. That plane might have a Sovereign and entering it would not be easy, The Emperor could easily bait its Sovereign, like how he did before. But The Coven stopped him at every turn to the point that he had the urge to destroy everything.
Unfortunately, the restrictions made by the Lower Realm was not something The Emperor could easily overcome. In the end, he bid his time and wander around the Lower Realm in search of any mages or forces that knew anything about the human with the Draconic Core and Heart of the Cosmos or that one possessing the treasured Ancient Magic Core of all, the Void. The Emperor succeeded in finding the forces that knew about the Human plane. In fact, that force was where one of their pawns used to lead. Unfortunately, that useless pawn died and although it remained active because there were other mages that took over him, the new leaders were not one of their pawns.
The Emperor was not really worried. The moment he introduced himself, they became obedient and even swore loyalty to him.
After that, he asked them to give him all information they had about his prey. He did not tell them about the Heart of the Cosmos and only mentioned about the Ancient Magic.
Mages in the Lower Realm were ignorant about the truth of the Ancient Magic Cores and only referred to Ancient Magic as a very rare magic. The Emperor did not bother to educate them, however. There was no point in telling them something that did not concern them.
It did not take long for The Emperor to receive the information he asked. But something caught his eye that made him doubt the authenticity of the information.
According to the information, The Emperor's prey were one and the same.Though it did not say that the human, Kyran Regis, possessed Draconic magic, he was no doubt someone who possessed Void magic. However, he possessed combat prowess similar to the human who possessed Draconic Magic. Moreover, the fact that he was a Regis, fitted the human The Emperor chased out from Somuli.
But that human never once used the Void.
The Emperor was also sure that the human he found in the Land of Desolation was different from the one he was chasing. To be precise, the latter's presence was hidden by the Heart of the Cosmos while the former's presence was too obvious, he stuck out like a sore thumb.
The Emperor did not even have problem picking up that human's traces every time he tried to escape by teleporting.
On the other hand, the human with the Draconic Core and Heart of the Cosmos only used movement techniques similar to the Dragon Clan to escape from him. If they were the same person, why did he not teleport?
The Emperor initially thought that the Draconic human— he decided to call his first prey that— did not want him, The Emperor, to discover him possessing two Ancient Magic Cores and the Heart of the Cosmos.
But The Emperor rejected the idea immediately because the Draconic human would be a huge idiot if he wanted to keep such an open secret a secret. In the first place, almost all Sovereigns in the Lower Realm knew the mage Kyran Regis possessed Void magic. The Emperor only needed to compare the Draconic human's face and that Kyran to confirm the truth.
But the unmasked Draconic human looked different from Kyran. Their build was also different— with the former being a lot taller and more masculine than the latter.
While Transformation Magic was available, which would allow mages to change their appearance, and those with more advanced knowledge could even change their bone structures and sometimes gender, The Emperor knew it was impossible for someone possessing Ancient Magic Cores.
The magic rules revolving around Ancient Magic was too complex yet inflexible that any form of magic that did not resonate with them would be impossible to perform.
This was why none of the Ancient Magic could use Transformation Magic.
In the end, The Emperor decided to find the truth himself. Only relying on others to provide the information was not his thing, anyway. Especially when the information came from beings in the Lower Realm that were incompetent in his eyes.
To find the truth, The Emperor stayed in the Lower Realm. He knew it was not wise to stop his search of his prey. But the only place he knew the Draconic human would hide was in the Human plane. In order to find that place, he had to trace the location where Kyran Regis was said to have appeared more than six years ago.
In a sense, by tracing Kyran Regis's trail, The Emperor would eventually understand the connection between him and the Draconic human. The identity of the Void mage he met in the Land of Desolation would also become clear by then.
The Emperor checked the planes Kyran Regis was rumored to have visited. However, it came to a point that he got tired of checking because Kyran's trail had long disappeared in those planes.
This was because time differed in each plane.
A decade or two had passed to some of the planes that Kyran visited that it was hard to find people who remembered him.
The Emperor changed tactic and targeted those beings that Kyran Regis was said to have become acquainted with. In particular, he had his eyes on the Guardians because it was said that Kyran was affiliated with them.
However, The Coven intervened once more by preventing The Emperor from finding these Sovereigns. When The Emperor tried to find the planes those Sovereigns governed, The Coven would also appear and prevent him from doing anything that would force the Sovereigns to show themselves.
The Emperor tried to exploit the Sovereigns who swore loyalty to him. But they could not even hold a candle against The Coven. They could not even do a proper job in forcing the other Sovereigns under the Guardians factions to reveal themselves.
After suffering so many setbacks, The Emperor realized the Sovereigns in the Lower Plane was incompetent. Those who swore loyalty were unable to live up to his expectations. If he wanted to receive proper results, he needed competent and trustworthy people. And the only ones who knew who that could do were his people in the Higher Realm.
After more than four months of staying in the Lower Realm, The Emperor finally decided to return to the Higher Realm and select some of his most competent people to assist him back in the Lower Realm.
Without bothering to inform those incompetent fools, The Emperor returned to the Higher Realm.
"Ah~ this place is truly different from that wretched one. The air alone is fulfilling," he muttered and immediately made his way to the nearest plane under his jurisdiction.
He could have returned directly to his plane, but he did not want to alert anyone of his return. He also wanted to know what kind of atrocity the other clans had done while he was away.
The nearest plane where he appeared was near the Glacio plane, where the Glacio Clan rules.
Among the clans under the Solis, the Glacio were considered the most obedient to him. Thus, he preferred to be surrounded by them. There was also the Blade Dancer Clan, however, their recent results were disappointing.
As The Emperor made his way to the Glacio plane, he mentally calculated the days and realized that the Tower of the Ancients should have recently opened.
'Hm... if this is the case,' he paused and looked to his left where an unnamed plane within the Glacio's jurisdiction was located. 'I believe there is a portal there. Some of the Glacio Leaders should be there standing guard.'
The Emperor decided to make a detour and check if the Tower of the Ancients had indeed opened.
'Hm?' The Emperor frowned the moment he arrived in the unnamed plane. This was because, he found the plane empty.
There were living beings in that plane, but there were no signs of High Sovereigns.
Sensing a foreboding, The Emperor did not bother entering the plane and rushed to the Glacio plane.
