Adam and Natasha were seated at the center of the restaurant, giving them a perfect view of Ahmadou's work in his kitchen.
One thing that was worth noticing was that despite watching him cooking at such a short distance, Adam could not smell anything.
"One of the most important senses when eating is actually the sense of smell. Since I have many clients who have very developed noses, I installed this system to make the experience better for them."
As if he could guess what he was thinking, Ahmadou spoke indifferently as he arranged his utensils and took out different ingredients.
The kitchen had a sort of U shape, one of the most useful and efficient when it came to professional cooking.
Once he seemed ready, Ahmadou closed his eyes and breathed in deeply, "Let's pray for the souls of the animals that were sacrificed in order for us to eat."
He did not gaze at Adam as he placed his hand together and gave a short prayer before continuing, "Let's thanks Mother Earth and the farmers who worked tirelessly to bring us the vegetables that will be used."
He made a second short prayer before washing his hands and finally. It was time for him to start working.
'Impressive.'
Adam whistled inwardly as he watched Ahamdou cook. The way he moved, the silence in the kitchen as all instruments were moved with such precision that they emitted basically no sounds.
This wasn't just cooking, this was literally a work of art. A veritable presentation and display of skills.
But it didn't stop there.
'He is adding his prana.'
The meat was cut with a special knife covered in his aura, Adam used his eyes of Truth to identify the different ingredients but whatever he looked at, they seemed to be some legendary things.
Meat of a moonlight cow, sacred ginseng, and tomatoes created with holy water. Ingredients after ingredients that seemed to be mightly impressive followed, making even the impassive Adam salivate a little.
Those ingredients weren't just impressive, they were also proof of the hard life Ahmadou lived.
Natasha watched all this as well with clear respect. It was impressive how simple humans, because of their dreams and aspirations, managed to grow so fast and reach such heights.
This also reminded her of all the things people with less than she had, managed to do even when they were facing full despair with no hope of success.
Natasha's fists tightened. It was too soon to give up on life. She still had many things to do and she wasn't without chances. All she needed to do was to fight on and keep fighting.
Her hand naturally found Adam and the two of them gazed at each other from across the table.
In many ways, her current situation was due to Adam. If he had not been here, she might have been kidnapped back then and become nothing but a breeding tool for people who wished to simply use her and end with it.
"Thank you for coming into my life."
They clasped hands quietly as she expressed her gratitude and Adam smiled,
"It's still too soon to say thanks."
She grinned at him and he smile back,
"Indeed. it's too soon. I still want to bother Sae. It wouldn't be fun if I died too fast."
"You two are weird friends. It would be good if you were a little more honest."
"Oh, we are. This is exactly why we fight every time."
She chuckled and looked out the window. From there, she could see the waves slowly taking a scarlet color and shifting toward a night blue.
"Pfft!"
Adam chuckled when thinking about the diminutive Sae and the tall Natasha fighting back and forth. One was like a cute dog and the other a luxurious cat.
"Thinking about it, how did the two of you become friends?"
"Honestly? I don't even remember. This is the kind of thing that happened naturally over time."
Natasha smiled. There wasn't some grand origin story about their friendship. "The same happened with you and Alberto. We just became close because we were the highest-ranked students. Then we slowly learned to know each other and before we knew it we were close enough to insult each other without problem."
This was a simple and normal friendship, without any grand twist to it but Natasha would never change it for anything else.
"Though I would have never imagined that the two of us would become so close to you."
She gave him a meaningful look and Adam was forced to cough to hide his awkwardness,
"Trust me. I never imagined our relationship would evolve like this as well."
They shared another laugh and continued to talk and have fun while waiting for the food.
The relationship between them was something worthy of a Drama.
Fighting together back to back, facing adversity, growing up and so much more.
It wasn't easy.
"I guess if this was a drama, I would be the princess waiting for my knight in shining armor to come saving me from the Dragon."
"Only in this case the princess doesn't lead a Kingdom but a Criminal mafia
The Dragon is a giant wolf God killer and the Knight is a criminal."
"Pfft! Simply small details that can be ignored. Or you know as they say, classics are made to be changed."
"I think this kind of change is a little too avant gardist."
"Heh. We will have to see for ourselves."
Adam took Natasha's hands in his and gazed in her eyes.
He could see the worries hidden in her mind and behind her smile.
He knew that she wasn't alright. That she was afraid and was even anticipating her death.
This was why,
"Believe in me and believe in yourself. I can swear that I will do all in my power to protect you and I will even go into the deepest part of Hell to recuperate your soul if necessary."
"Why hell and not Heaven?"
"I don't think a naughty girl like you can go to Heaven."
Adam knew she was just Changing topic and played along with her.
Like this they continued to chat while waiting.
