Running was something Boris was used to. Even so —
'Fuck, I feel like I am back in the army and the battlefield.'
Boris swore as he felt a spear brush past him and explode not far away.
His opponent was toying with him. He knew that he could see this. At the speed at which those things moved, avoiding for so long should have been impossible and yet here he was.
He wasn't arrogant enough to believe everything was the result of his skills;
[15:23]
'What a shitty situation; Sigh~'
"Are you not running anymore?"
He turned around to see Prince, walking quietly toward him. There was no more spear above him but Boris understood that this was only temporary.
Meanwhile, the entire place was in shambles and one had the impression that a building company had started working here.
"I was quite fond of my house you know?"
"What is the use of a house when you are about to die?"
The sound of the wave reached them, the feeling of the crunching sand beneath the feet of his armor.
Boris was tired. His breath was ragged and while his armor was not destroyed, many marks started to appear on it.
"You are right about this." He would not need a house when he went into hell. "But I will not die alone."
He looked up, all the connectors in his armor were unanimous, this was indeed the place where the true enemy was.
[Fire]
The enemy was not the only one adept at long attack.
All it took was 3 seconds — and bullets as well as missiles rained down from the sky, ready to shred his enemy to nothing. Even if the one here was nothing but an illusion, as long as he was in the radius, he would not be able to escape.
This attack would most likely eradicate everything in a radius of more than two or three kilometers, killing any civilians in the zone and destroying many infrastructures.
He would also become truly wanted by the Association.
But it did not matter. All they needed to do was to take down that monster.
.
.
.
Boris timed everything perfectly down to the last point and thought what was about to happen may lead to death, he had obviously contengacy plan in place.
[Forteress Mode]
The armor color changed, becoming darker, and the time remaining was consumed by another third once again.
As the missile finally reached the target, a blinding light flashed, followed by the explosion and a shockwave so large, it was sweeping everything around.
Whoosh~! BOOOOOMMMM~!!!
Boris crouched down and groaned focused on protecting himself with all his might. At the corner of his eyes, he could see the information about the stats of his armor and it was being destroyed by more than 50%.
'Fuck. I might really die because of this.'
Dragon lance. Weapons of mass destruction that had been created especially to deal with powerful beings.
Not only was the might out of this world, but it would also release special radiations that were harmful to most earthly supernatural beings. Despite wearing this armor, Boris was facing the prospect of death.
An undefended Executor would not be able to escape without leaving half his life.
Finally, as the heat of the explosion started to fade, Boris pushed his hand out of the mountain of sand and debris that had been covering him.
"Huff~ Huff~ Blerg~!"
Blood flowed and more than 80% of his armor had been completely destroyed. His skin was showing up and those parts had been completely charred beyond belief.
He kept coughing, vomiting blood, and heaving up, his face scrunched in pain, his senses disoriented and his ears ringing.
Clearly, he had either underestimated the power of those lances or overestimated himself.
"Shit."
His hand trembling he taped his chest and a compartment in his armor opened, showing small glowing red tubes.
This was one of the special potions his boss had managed to buy in the black Market. They were creations of Piaget Freud, a revolutionary scientist and Alchemist whose renown did not pale in comparison to entities such as [~S.K~] or Makarov.
Boris was one of the lucky few who could actually obtain such a potion despite being not part of the association.
His end trembling, he took a tube and immediately gulped it all down.
The liquid slowing going down his throat had a sticky feeling but the feeling of relief that washed over him made all the millions he used to have this worth it.$
[All team assemble. Full fire.]
While he was healing himself, Boris never lost sight of his object.
This was a raid.
A raid only ended when the body of the boss was brought down.
His soldiers all appeared in the surroundings. They had been waiting far away for this very moment. All of them were clad in tactical gear and were holding energy weapons and starting firing in the direction their targets should have been.
"This should end soon."
Boris focused on healing himself, even if one more percent. While waiting for the attack to end.
[Target is down!]
"Hold fire. Prepare for immediate retreat."
By now, the attack would have wiped out many civilians as well. There was no way the LAPPD would forgive him.
'This will be complicated.'
He had no choice over than to flee as far as he could now, change identity, and lay low for a while in some of their hideouts.
"Anyways. Now, let's what the bastard who caused us so many problems looks like."
He moved his eyes around and started walking towards the body that fell on the ground, now devoid of life.
Boris chuckled, remembering the way he had been taunted at the first. This was why Powerful hunters were so stupid.
Becoming stronger, they became blinded with pride as well. Believing themselves to be strong and unbeatable and forgetting all the basics.
Never fight alone.
Never fight without a plan.
There is nothing shameful in fleeing.
Only by surviving can you win.
Finally — Never try to be a hero.
Those mottos were more than just words. They were a way of life that should be ingrained in all hunters.
Once he reached a certain radius, he pointed at one of his subordinates and ordered him to verify if the man was dead.
This might seem heartless but this was another reality. The weakest had to be used as sacrificial pawns so that the strongest could survive and assure the survival of the team. This was never about something as petty and ridiculous as right or wrong.
Only pure and unadulterated reality.
The soldier approached and turned the body before nodding,
"He is dead boss."
Boris nodded and stretched his hands, "Fire again."
Everyone followed orders and charged their guns before firing non-stop for more than 30 seconds. Boris even participated and only after doing this two times did he finally approach.
"Now then…Who might you —Huh?"
When Boris finally reached the corpse, he was startled to realize one thing.
"Ah…"
The corpse lying down and dead had his face and was very much alive while grinning at him.
"Tell me—"
His voice was guttural, his face disfigured with bits of flesh and bones showing everywhere. A true horror vision.
"Did you have a good dream?"
—And so Boris finally woke up.
