Eternal Cultivation of Alchemy
Chapter 2379: Understanding the Two TechniquesTwo years was no longer a long time for Momo, and after Alex explained the benefits of having Demon Eyes, she was willing to get blinded. She could still sense things with her spiritual sense, so there wasn't much of an issue for her to learn during this time period.
Since her roots were improved and she had begun forming her Demon Eyes, there wasn't much left for Alex to do except simply teach her.
Her understanding of pills at a fundamental level had improved a lot by now, and if she only had a recipe with her, she could do a lot better. She still lacked a proper pill-forming technique to help elevate her alchemy to the next level, but that would have to wait.
Alex didn't want her accidentally revealing his technique to everyone in the tournament, so he was going to give it to her afterward. For now, his other Immortal-grade pill-forming technique was more than good enough for her.
While Alex taught Momo, he made sure to focus on himself as well. His Origins needed dire attention from him, so he spent all the time he could afford to improving the two techniques.
It took him more than a few months to get a solid grasp of how the two techniques actually affected his Origin.
He first learned about Origins from various sources and how they worked.
An Origin was an empty egg — a blank canvas — that could later be turned into something that the cultivator wished for it to be. The cultivator could fill the empty egg with aura, and it would hatch into a Spirit created from that aura and Intent.
For the figurative 'egg' to hatch, it needed to reach maturity. And maturity for an Origin came from a threshold of energy it required. Nobody's requirement was the same, but it was close enough for everyone.
Once the Origin crossed the threshold, that was when one could continue with their cultivation and enter the Immortal Transcendent realm. But just because an Origin reached the threshold point did not mean that one had to stop. They could continue pouring more energy into it, making the Origin stronger. The only reason people didn't do it was that there was no purpose to it.
If a wounded person need a healing pill with 80% harmony to be fully healed, he couldn't be healed if the pill he ate only had 60% harmony. But, conversely, eating a 90% harmony pill wouldn't help the person anymore than an 80% pill would as more healing wouldn't matter to someone who was already healed. Just like that, one didn't need to cross more than the threshold with their Origin, as any more wasn't going to help them in any way. It might even hinder them, in fact, as it would slow their cultivation speed a lot.
However, in Alex's case, things were a lot different. Because of the two techniques, the threshold played a weird role in Alex's Origin.
Provenance Duality: Replication, as he understood, made it so that once his Origin reached the threshold, it could be pumped with more energy until there was enough energy within it to pull apart the Origin into two duplicate Origins.
The two Origins would be intrinsically linked and would go back to being one single Origin when it wasn't being consciously kept apart.
Once it reached the point of being turned into two, one could double the amount of energy again so that the Origin could then be replicated into four regular Origins.
That took a very long time, but it was doable. The only thing that was required of Alex was to use the technique from the start and make the Origin duplicable.
One could apparently learn it anytime before the Immortal Spirit realm, but doing so was much harder as one needed to undo a lot of things they had done in the Immortal Origin realm and the Immortal Transcendent realm.
So even if Alex began cultivating now, it wasn't going to matter a whole lot.
However, that was not the case with the other technique.
Provenance Duality: Transformation, as he understood, changed the property of the Origin right from the start to have the Origin internally separated into two groups, two faces. When separated, only one group of the energy would be the face of the Origin, while the other would hide.
When needed, the state of the Origin could be immediately changed so that the other group would be the face of it.
In simple terms, it was as if Alex had a list of numbers from 1 to 100. And with this technique, he could separate those numbers into odd and even, making it so that only the odd half of the numbers were shown, and when he wanted to, he could have the even numbers shown while the odd ones hid.
That effectively meant that Alex only had half of the numbers at each time — half of the Origin — which once again meant he had to pour into it energy that was double the threshold.
Alex could then choose which half to show at each time and pour two different sets of aura accordingly to have two separate Spirits in the end that would make two different Creations.
Alex was fine with pouring the extra energy into the Origin if its effects were so good. However, the sad fact was that he couldn't use the two techniques at the same time.
He could either make the Origin possible to be duplicated or make it possible to hide half of it, which would hold a different aura than the other half.
That was why he wanted to merge the techniques. He wanted to make both possible, and now that he understood how the techniques worked, he just needed to change them.
It wasn't easy to merge the two techniques, but he had to start somewhere. The very first task Alex needed to do was to make certain of what he wanted the merged version of the two techniques to do.
And after months of thinking on this topic, he landed on a fascinating idea. If it worked, it would be the greatest achievement he had ever made on any technique.
